Where it all begins: Our atelier is the heart of our company! Our talented tailors transfer patterns from the CAD department to carefully preselected fabrics. The new pattern pieces are created in our atelier, which, together with fabric draping on mannequins, are the basis for newly emerging collections for the design team to work with.
Because personal contact with our customers is a top priority, our in-house PR department takes care of communications with celebrities and influencers – as well as all public relations and social media activities – directly from our HQ. The Editorial team translates the story and inspiration behind the collections into text for press and web, communicating the spirit consistently to the outside. National and international collaborations are constantly growing and are managed holistically by our Collaborations team.
The Buying team is responsible for the careful selection of what our collections are made of – from fabrics, yarns, and leather – to all components in-between. The team works closely with our international suppliers in developing fabrics so that we can guarantee our customers only the very best quality.
In our CAD department, the first pieces of a new collections are created using cutting-edge technology. In this stage, the samples are in paper form in order to visualize the finished collection.
Four design teams work on the DOROTHEE SCHUMACHER collections, and are divided into the departments Light Wovens, Heavy Wovens, Knitwear & Jersey and Accessories. In close collaboration with Dorothee, our designers create two main collections and two pre collections each year. Our collections consist on average of about 120-150 pieces. In weekly Design team meetings, the outline of our collection is defined. This is followed by the development process up until the final approval for sale.
The DOROTHEE SCHUMACHER online store went live in 2010. After a successful relaunch in 2017, we also brought our outsourced Logistics warehouse and Customer Service teams back to Mannheim in spring 2021. Our e-commerce department is responsible 24/7 for guaranteeing our customers the best possible user experience, so they can feel the DOROTHEE SCHUMACHER spirit from anywhere in the world. Currently, there are 10 DOROTHEE SCHUMACHER retail stores across Germany, whose teams are responsible for conveying the DOROTHEE SCHUMACHER spirit to our customers. Retail management is controlled from our headquarters in Mannheim. The E-Commerce and Retail teams work together closely in order to provide our customers with a transparent and consistent shopping experience. Our long-term goal is to even further connect these two teams.
Our Finance & Controlling team is responsible for a wide range of administrative and operational tasks. The department includes Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Controlling.
The HR Department is responsible for the holistic management of personnel-related issues, as well as advising managers and employees on labor laws. The team recruits new talents who carry the spirit of the DOROTHEE SCHUMACHER brand, further completing our team. The HR Department also ensures an optimal onboarding process within the company and supports the individual employees in their personal development opportunities.
In addition to working on new and innovative processes for our customers, our IT department is constantly working hard to ensure that the entire DOROTHEE SCHUMACHER team is technically up to date.
Our Logistics department provides on-site management of our service providers, including the customs clearance process of all international shipments. The Logistics department is an essential part of our entire supply chain, as it is responsible for the procurement, safeguarding of transport, storage and preparation of our goods. Collection management is also part of our Logistics Department, which is responsible for distributing our collections to our showrooms.
Our Marketing department is made up of Event and Trade Marketing, Window Concepts, Production and the Graphics team. The teams work hand-in-hand to develop almost all marketing measures – up to final implementation – in-house. They also work closely with Dorothee so that her ideas, thoughts and feelings can be directly integrated into all marketing measures.
In order to ensure that our team at HQ and in our German stores feel comfortable around the clock, our Office & Facility Managers and Housekeepers provide a beautiful and pleasant working environment. Here, even the smallest matters of heart are gladly put into practice.
Our Production and Product Development teams work closely with our Designers as important sparring partners during the design development process. The Product Development and Design teams work hand-in-hand during the collection development, making sure that the final products correspond to initial designs, and that we are able to guarantee our customers the highest quality products. Our producers and suppliers are counted among some of the best in the world; we have been working with our partners for years on the basis of trust, resulting not only in deep relationships, but the possibility to push the design development process to the highest levels.
The satisfaction of our customers is our first priority. To ensure this, our quality management takes all the necessary steps and measures to meet predefined requirements and standards that guarantee our products are of the highest quality. We take customer feedback seriously, evaluating and processing it comprehensively so that the quality of our products is constantly improved. We use the most up-to-date methods to ensure quality, and regularly check samples for fit and workmanship. Our quality management team regularly performs 100% checks of the finished collections.
DOROTHEE SCHUMACHER collections are sold in 46 countries worldwide at over 600 doors. From trade shows to personal meetings, our Sales team is active both nationally and internationally presenting the inspiration and story behind our collections. Because our customer’s feedback is extremely important to us, our Sales team visits customers on a regular basis to guarantee proximity and support in addressing concerns. Our Store employees pass on the credo of our collections on a daily basis and provide our customers with a consistently flawless shopping experience.
Many of our employees have been part of the DOROTHEE SCHUMACHER family for over a decade after starting as apprentices or interns. We value and support the growth and development of our team right from the start, and for this reason, we not only have a wide offering of internships in different fields, but also give our apprentices a variety of professional training opportunities.
